Sorry for the ramble in your inbox incoming- I'm a really huge fan of your analysis type posts like the ones about Cathal and recently Flint ;A; So I hope its ok to maybe throw in my own 2 cents about Cogs/their society- (Sorry this gets rambly I thought about this last night and writing this like an hour after waking up lol)

I think what alot of people kind of (I wouldnt say ignore- more of:) don't really get is that I dont believe characters like Cathal or Flint have bad tendencies because they really want to in a way, (I kind of worded that poorly but point is) but because their society rewards and encourages that type of behavior. I think you said something kind of similar on Cathals post- But especially for Flint, whose a Bossbot (Who are literally the embodiment of a toxic workplace and elitism. I believe a old snippet from the TTO magazines says "They have no real skills of their own, just the ability to push down others and stay on top!" Or something to that nature.) he has to be demanding and imposing. There is no benefit to him in being kind. (Like looking at Misty for example) And don't get me wrong I don't believe that if Flint and Cathal were removed from Cog society they'd be better/objectively nicer (Like Flint not being condescending to Toons and Cathal not making people do things for him and being encouraged to try) But I do wonder how much of it is pressure, or how much of it is egged on and rewarded. Atleast in the aspects it relates to how they treat others.

(..And also I wonder what happens to Cogs that don't get jobs and are seen as ..not functioning. Since Graham was freaking the hell out in "Meeting Of Two Minds" over the possibility of not getting the job. I have a whole thing about this actually in my oc lore but thats another thing entirely I'll write about someday I swear)

Also I gasped when I saw the doodle of Graham in the MSI shirt finally a MSI listener Graham truther. I think he'd like the album "How I Learned To" and of course "You'll Rebel To Anything". I associate him mainly with the songs "Lights Out", "On It", and "You're No Fun Anymore" :p (This has been my favorite band since I was like 13 and now I get to spill all my opinions xD) I always imagined him doing the guitar backbend their bassist does! And my final hc is that Flint plays bass and Graham plays the main guitar. I think it fits them .. some people overlook bass when its actually pretty hard to learn from what I hear and vital to the song. (Like heres Feel Good Inc w/o the bass.. feels wrong x_x)

THe biggest issue with Cogs Inc is that it REWARDS and ENCOURAGES these poor behaviors, worsening these characters as people. ESPECIALLY cathal considering the position of power they’re in. I’m sure it applies to a ton of other cogs too, but unfortunately I haven’t gotten to them yet bc I’m not as insane abt them . LMAO

And yeah since cogs are literally built for work, it’s a wonder what happens to those who can’t find a job as easily as others. Hoping that gets built on since it’s clear in MOTM that these cogs have to actually apply and go to interviews and probably face some trial and error to land a job, just like people IRL.

ALSO. THE BAND HCS. I love it and you’re SOOOO RIGHT about the backbend that is so grahamcore. And yes I’m pretty sure Flint does play bass, I think his creator mailman said smth abt that on their blog . AND IM SO GLAD YOU BROUGHT UP FEEL GOOD INC bc i did draw flint in a demon days shirt in that same animatic . And ive def drawn them in the same shirt a couple times in the past too . Hello and welcome to the blog of Gorillaz Re-Imagined!

The project was started by @spuckterwolf, (that’s me!) with idea in mind to re-tell and add a little spice to the Gorillaz lore.

So, why did I decide to do all this? You might be wondering..

This project exists because of how the canon lore is quite confusing, rushed, and a bit underwhelming at times. I wanted to make this to not only have people understand some aspects of the story better but to also get people intrigued with the fun extra spice to the stories that I personally wanted to add in.

HUGE DISCLAIMER BTW: I am not trying in any way to discourage the work Jamie and Damon have done for this band, hell even with the confusing plot points I still love this funny virtual band no matter what. I only made this JUST FOR FUN and the details that are added in by me into this lore is not canon at all in the actual story.

I guess now would be as good a time as any to share a Skinny Ape thought. So, all theories aside, I’m well, aware that Silicon Valley tech (I can look for the specifics if need be) inspired Damon to write the song. However, this song was the point in the concert where I started reflecting on my experience running this blog, and in the community. It also made me think back to the days where people used to message Denholm about the band, often as a way of validating hcs. In one memorable exchange, Denholm told a fan that “Gorillaz fans need to chill out and go outside.” This is was in 2018 lmao. ANYHOW. I’m not saying Damon is aware of that specific exchange interactions, but I imagine he has some idea that they happen. Management and staff are so present in the community, and have been since Gorillaz’ return. So, when I listen to “Skinny Ape,” I hear, more than anything, the gentle reminder that the characters aren’t real. It isn’t condescending or anything. It’s more like “hey, bad things may happen, but they’re going to be okay, you don’t have to worry about them. They’ll always have ‘life’ and no one, not even Jamon, has the power to ‘ruin’ them.”

On the other hand, I don’t see Damon having that deep of an understanding of fans. This is likely my impression, shaped by my observations of the community over the years. I can see how this could be translated to a lore-centered approach where 2D is saying he’s healing, which is also nice, but more than anything, it comes across as creator commentary outside of the band/their effect on fans. It feels very topical, even if it’s unintentional.

Summary: It puts him in mind of seeing his parents or his old girlfriend after the accident, their eyes glassy and voices trembling. He remembers how he’d blinked through the dull red film that coloured his hospital room and said he was sorry. Sorry for what he put them through.

It felt unfair then. It seems unbearable now.

A character study of Stuart as he records The Fall during the American leg of the Plastic Beach tour, reworking the Gorillaz plot around the real touring timeline; or, thoughts on trauma in transit, who we are to strangers, and the link between sugar cravings and opioid dependence.

Rating: Explicit (references to sexual content and explicit substance abuse.)

Warnings: Quite a few, please check AO3′s warnings for more detail. Primarily substance abuse, unhealthy coping mechanisms born of an unhealthy relationship, and mental health issues.
